Design

Design is one of the most vital aspects to a beautiful, resilient garden.  Design allows me to see all the possibilities within the garden and sort out problems before even putting a shovel in the ground.  We call this four dimensional thinking, when the designer foresees what the design will become and therefore build a comprehensive plan on how to implement it.

When you come to us for a design you might be looking for one of many different options.  Depending on your project size we can offer a variety of products, including:

  • Site Analysis Report
  • Topographical Maps
  • Outlined Garden Plans
  • Detailed Garden Plans
  • Planting Plans
  • Master Plans

Designs are provided in a variety of formats but most common is digital files such as .pdf, .dwg and .3ds.  Physical copies of designs can also be provides such as A1 togomaps, printed reports, or scaled models.

Price Breakdown

Design

Small: £200 - £400
Medium: £400 - £800
Large: £700 - £1000

The complexity of a design directly effects the cost and, depending what you need, will effect how long it takes to complete.  All designs start with a consultation and a look at the site.  This will allow me to estimate the time and cost of the project depending on what you need to complete your project.  Once a fixed price quote has been been agreed on I'll take sample, pictures and/or measurements depending what you need.  Once complete you'll receive an invoice for the price agreed with the option to pay up to 20% extra to go towards reinvestment in community projects (see Community Services).

If you would like for use to build your design then we price design work at a percent of the total project cost, usually between 3 - 5%.

For example a decking project costs £500 in material and £450 in labour.  The total of £950 then has £50 added for design work (£950*0.05) to bring the invoice total to £1000.  You then have the option to pay between £1000 and £1200 with everything over the minimum going towards community projects.

Maintenance

One Off Jobs: £20/hr
£150/day
Reoccurring Jobs: £15/hr

Maintenance jobs depend a lot on the size, state and scope of your garden.  Whether its a small tidy up job or a long overdue make over the cost involved will be split between labour, materials and waste removal.  Jobs start with a short consultation on site so we can discuss what your garden needs.  Once agreed, we make up a fixed price quotation for confirmation and then work can get done.  When everything is finished you'll get an invoice for the price agreed with the option to pay up to 20% extra that will be reinvested in community projects (see Community Services)

For one off or seasonal jobs we charge £20/hr or £150/day, but if you would like reoccurring maintenance then we charge £15/hr and charge on a monthly bases.  Fixed price quotations are agreed on before hand and will outline seasonal needs, material and time.

When calculating the cost of a build project, we estimate labour costs to be equal to that of materials.  We phone suppliers to get the best price and quality on materials and once calculated we can estimate time based on hourly cost.  Depending on the scale of the project we will usually ask for a deposit on the material costs for confirmation and then once complete the remaining  quotation will be invoiced.

Education

One to One: £35/hr
£250/day
Workshops: £40 - £150/course

One to one teaching or assisted gardening works very similar to that of maintenance.  We have short consultation on site to go over what you want to learn and over how long.  The main difference be that while maintenance can be done without you present, teaching will require your involvement.  Because of this, assisted gardening can be done in shorter bursts across a longer time period, for example two hours a week for several weeks.  Assisted gardening will involve a curriculum of technologies and techniques that you wish to learn for and about your garden.  Depending on the length, most assisted gardening will be invoiced once completed with the same optional 20% extra to go towards community projects (see Community Services)

Workshops however will be done as a group and require preregistration and payment.  Workshops aim to tackle a specific set of skills of knowledge to help empower gardeners with regenerative and organic information.  Workshops will be held at a variety of venues depending on the information and usually involve hands on activities or tours.  Each workshop is different and some may require you to pay for materials if construction is involved.  Concession pricing is available and regular prices work on a sliding scale where profits go towards scholarships for those unable to afford.  For example, a two day Intro to Permaculture workshop costs £150-£180 where the anything over the minimum will go towards allowing community leaders or projects access to the course as well.
